Robert Taylor Marshall
Robert Taylor Marshall was born in Tennessee on 13 February 1872, by his gravestone and his death certificate; the certificate, answered by his son Fayette, names his parents as Joe T. Marshall and Sally, her surname not recorded. No census before 1920 is known to hold him, so his early life is known only from later records.
On 13 November 1904 he married Froney Boyd in Wayne County, Tennessee, where her father Eli farmed the hill country near Clifton. Their first children were born on that side of the county line: Fayette at Clifton in 1905, Artie on 2 October 1912. By January 1920 the family was farming in Civil District 1 of Hardin County, on the Tennessee River, where the census taker wrote him down as Bob Marshall, 47, with Frona and seven children on the page.
In the mid 1920s, already past fifty, he moved the family to the drained cotton land of Mississippi County, Missouri. The 1930 census finds him at St. James Township as R T Marshall, 58, with Froney 46 and the six youngest still at home, all Tennessee born. The couple settled at Wyatt, in that township, where Frona died in 1961. Robert outlived her by thirteen years. He died of a coronary at the Host House Nursing Home in Charleston at 12:25 in the afternoon of 7 May 1974, and his certificate counts the age exactly: 102 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was buried beside Frona in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston two days later.
