Fayette John Marshall
Fayette John Marshall was born 15 September 1905 at Clifton, in Wayne County, Tennessee, a son of Robert Taylor Marshall and Frona Boyd, ten months after their wedding in that county. In 1920 he was fourteen on his father Bob's farm in Civil District 1 of Hardin County, Tennessee, one of seven children on the page. In the mid 1920s the whole family moved to the cotton land of Mississippi County, Missouri, where his parents settled at Wyatt.
Fayette married Christine Townsend about 1926; their first child, Ruth, was born in April 1927, when he was twenty-one and Christine fifteen. The 1930 census finds the three of them farming at Wolf Island Township, and the 1940 census the five of them, with Doris and Ross added. When he registered for the draft at East Prairie in December 1940 he named Clifton, Tennessee as his birthplace. By 1950 the household at Wolf Island held seven children, from Doris, seventeen, down to Dennis, one.
He farmed there the rest of his life. He died 20 April 1986 at East Prairie, aged 80, and was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery there. Christine outlived him by five years.
