Rosa H. Reed
Rosa H. Reed was born about 1880 in Vermont. In 1901 she was Miss Rose Reed of Williamstown, the town just north of Brookfield. On Wednesday, 7 August 1901, she married Bert Williams, a Brookfield farmer, at the parsonage of the Rev. R. H. Abercrombie, the Congregational minister at Brookfield.
A baby was born in their house on 8 May 1902. Their daughter Gladys Loella, born about 1902, married Herbert William Knowles in 1920.
She was a year and a half into her marriage when, in December 1903, twelve of the sixteen cows on the farm were found diseased with tuberculosis and were killed. The Williamses kept on. Rose helped run the church's chicken-pie supper for Washington's birthday in 1907, and that summer her aunt and two sons came up from Worcester, Massachusetts. In December 1920 she went to Berlin to take care of Mrs. L. L. Stone, who was ill with double pneumonia.
In April 1950 Rosa, seventy, was keeping house on the Williams farm on the Northfield Road at Brookfield, with Bert, their son-in-law Herbert and two of their grandchildren in the house.
