Ruby Jackson
Ruby Jackson was born on 24 September 1923 at Henryetta, in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. She was a daughter of Tom Ellsworth Jackson, a smelter worker, and Myrta Bratcher. She grew up in a large family: in 1952 her father's obituary named four daughters and three sons. Her brothers were John Freeman Jackson (1916 to 1987), Earl Jackson and Virgil Jackson (1925 to 2011). Her sisters were Sadie, later Mrs. Martindale and then Mrs. Blomgren; Alvana, Mrs. Crafton E. Stone; and Virginia, Mrs. Dick Farris.
On 25 September 1945, the day after her twenty-second birthday, she married Harry Kenneth Richardson at Henryetta. He was a Henryetta man who had just come through the war as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps.
Like several of her brothers and sisters, Ruby went to California after the war. Her daughter Linda was born at Richmond, on the San Francisco Bay, on 7 March 1948. When her father died at Dewar in November 1952, his obituary listed her as "Mrs. Harry Richardson, Pittsburg, California." Her sister Sadie was then at Hayward, her sister Alvana at Hanford, her brother John at Alhambra and her brother Earl at Sacramento.
The Richardsons later settled at Lawton, in Comanche County. Ruby and Harry had three children: Kenneth, James and Linda. Linda attended the Robert E. Greiner School for the Handicapped and lived at home all her life.
Ruby trained as a nurse later in life. She earned an associate's degree in nursing from Cameron University in Lawton and became a registered nurse. She worked at Comanche County Memorial Hospital and later for the Comanche County Health Department. She and Harry were members of University Church of Christ.
Ruby Jackson Richardson died at her home in Lawton on Monday, 19 February 2007, at eighty-three. Her funeral was held at University Church of Christ on the Thursday, with Mike Bentley, the minister, officiating, and she was buried that afternoon at Salt Creek Cemetery in Henryetta, the town where she was born. Her obituary named her husband; her daughter Linda; her sons Kenneth and James; her brother Virgil and his wife Mabel at Henryetta; her three sisters, Sadie Blomgren of Reno and Alvana Stone and Virginia Farris of Sacramento; a granddaughter, Teresa, and Teresa's husband William Busby, of Geronimo; and two great-grandsons. Linda died that August. Harry died a year after Ruby, on 6 March 2008, and was buried beside her.
