Ruth Ferris
Ruth Ferris was the daughter of Joseph Ferris and Ruth Knapp of Greenwich, Connecticut. Her gravestone, which says she was "about 83 years of Age" in 1745, puts her birth about 1662. Her father was one of the original proprietors of Greenwich and laid out much of its land. Her grandfathers were Jeffrey Ferris and Nicholas Knapp, both first settlers of Stamford.
In 1675 her father was on the committee to build a house for a minister. In 1678 the Rev. Jeremiah Peck moved into it as Greenwich's first settled minister. On 27 November 1686 Ruth married his son Samuel Peck. Her husband became the town's justice of the peace for about fifty years.
Her father made his will on 9 June 1699. It names "Ruth Peck wife of Saml. Peck" among his daughters and made her husband one of the three administrators, with her mother and her uncle Peter Ferris. Their son Samuel, a carpenter of Old Greenwich, was born in March 1688.
She died at Greenwich on 17 September 1745, seven months before her husband. She is buried in the Tomac Burying Ground in Old Greenwich. Her stone reads: "Here lies the Body of Mrs Ruth Peck wife of Samll Peck Esq who died Sep y 17 1745 about 83 years of Age."
