S. Douglas Lovell
S. Douglas Lovell was born about 1855 in Illinois. His father was born in Ohio and his mother in Illinois. The local papers called him Doug, Douglas, or S. D. Lovell. He farmed in the country where Fulton and McDonough Counties meet, and he moved his family from farm to farm every few years.
In the winter of 1893 he and his wife were living at Ipava, in Fulton County. On 14 December that year they buried a child of three months. Their son Harry Russell was born at Ipava in September 1895.
In March 1902, at the season when farm families changed places, Doug Lovell moved his household to Baxter Herndon's farm in Scotland Township, McDonough County. Three years later, in March 1905, he moved again, to a place just east of Industry. By 1908 the family was at Adair, and in 1910 he was fifty five and living in New Salem Township, the township around Adair, with his wife Lina, their daughter Mamie, 19, and Harry, 14.
His older daughters had married and moved away. Lulu, Mrs. Plate, lived in St. Louis. Another daughter married Thomas H. Wright and went with him to Montana, then to Peoria, and in 1906 to Arkansas City, Kansas. Both came home to visit, and the Macomb Journal reported each visit.
