Samuel Alexander Lehman
Samuel Alexander Lehman was born on 18 January 1861 in Johnson County, Iowa, the county of Iowa City. His family gives his father as Samuel Alexander Lehman, who died in 1860, before the boy was born. His mother was Susan, whom the family calls Susan Boldosser.
On 20 May 1880, in Johnson County, he married Alice Adulce Roberts, who was also born there, in 1860. Both were nineteen, and the marriage record names his mother as Susan. Their son William Christopher was born in Johnson County on 4 July 1884. A few years later the family moved across the state to Cass County, in southwest Iowa, where their son Samuel Scoville was born near Cumberland in November 1891 and Ivan Ray in Edna Township on 26 October 1897. The family also remembers a daughter, Blanche, who died in 1900.
In 1900 Samuel and Alice were living in Edna Township, Cass County, with William, 15, Scoville, 8, and Ray, 2. In December 1902 William married Jennie Waldron in Cass County, and the marriage record names his parents as Samuel Lehman and Alice Roberts.
Late in life Samuel and Alice moved to Glendive, on the Yellowstone River in eastern Montana. Samuel died there on 3 February 1943, aged 82. He is buried in the Dawson County Cemetery at Glendive under a flat stone that reads SAMUEL A., 1861-1943. Alice lies beside him.
