Samuel Peck
Samuel Peck was born at Guilford, Connecticut, on 18 January 1659, the eldest son of the Reverend Jeremiah Peck and Johanna Kitchell. His childhood followed his father's ministry, to New Haven, Saybrook, Newark and Elizabethtown in New Jersey. He came to Greenwich with his father in 1678, when Jeremiah became the town's first settled minister. The family genealogy says he was well educated.
On 27 November 1686 he married Ruth Ferris, said to have been a daughter of Peter Ferris, a son of Jeffrey Ferris of Stamford. He became the founder of the many Peck families of Greenwich. He was a man of large wealth and influence. For about fifty years he was a justice of the peace, the local magistrate who heard small cases, took depositions and married couples, and he held other important offices in the town.
Ruth died at Greenwich on 17 September 1745, aged eighty-three. Samuel died there on 28 April 1746, aged eighty-seven. Their gravestones were still standing in the old Greenwich cemetery in 1877.
