Samuel Steele
Samuel Steele was born on 15 March 1652, the youngest son of John Steele Jr. and Mary Warner. His father died at Farmington the next year, before Samuel was two. His mother then married William Hills. His grandfather John Steele had been one of the first men of Hartford and of Farmington.
On 16 September 1680 he married Mercy Bradford, a daughter of Maj. William Bradford of Plymouth Colony and a granddaughter of Governor William Bradford. Her sister Melatiah married his cousin John Steele of Norwich, so two Bradford sisters married two Steele cousins.
They made their home at Hartford and had five sons and two daughters. Thomas was born on 9 September 1681 and married Susanna Webster. The twins Samuel and Jerusha came on 15 February 1684/5. William followed in 1687, Abiel on 8 October 1693, Daniel on 3 April 1697 and Eliphalet on 23 June 1700. Abiel married John Webster of Hartford on Christmas Day 1712.
He died in 1710. Mercy outlived him by ten years and died in 1720.
