Sarah Bacon was born at Billerica, Massachusetts, on 10 April 1707. She was the fifth child of Nathaniel Bacon and Judith Wyman. Her father was a shoemaker's son who had marched with the Billerica men to the rescue of Lancaster in 1704. Her mother was the youngest child of Francis Wyman, a tanner of Woburn.
Her parents were second cousins. Her father's mother, Sarah Richardson, and her mother's father, Francis Wyman, were both grandchildren of Thomas Richardson of Westmill in Hertfordshire, whose sons founded Woburn.
On 2 March 1726-7 she married Benjamin Grover of Stoneham, and she was the mother of the Sarah Grover baptized at Grafton in 1742. Both towns recorded the marriage. Eighteen months earlier her elder sister Abigail had married a Thomas Grover in the same town.
Her brothers and sisters were Nathaniel, born 1699/1700; Judith, who died as a baby; a second Judith; Abigail; a Michael who died at nine months; Susanna, who married Nathan Brooks of Concord; a second Michael; Joseph; and Thomas, born in 1721. Her father died at Lexington in 1750.
