Sarah Lewis
Sarah Lewis was born at Waterbury in Connecticut on 29 April 1708. She was the third child of Joseph Lewis, later deacon of the Waterbury church, and his wife Sarah Andruss. Her mother was a daughter of Abraham Andruss, one of the first two townsmen of Waterbury.
She grew up in the house of the richest man in the town. Her father was a cloth weaver and a fifteen-session deputy to the General Court, and when he died his estate was the largest yet inventoried at Waterbury. Her brother Thomas went to Yale and became a Congregational minister. Her brother Samuel became a deacon.
On 1 February 1726/7, at eighteen, she married Obadiah Warner, son of Dr. Ephraim Warner. Their first child, Jerusha, was born on 13 October 1727. Eleven more followed over twenty four years: Lydia in 1729, Obadiah in 1731, Esther in 1733, Joseph in 1735, Lois in 1738, Enos in 1740, Sarah in 1742/3, Eleanor in 1743/4, Agnis in 1747, Irena in 1749 and Mary in 1751. The family lived on Cook Street.
She buried several of them. Esther died in February 1746 at twelve. Enos died on 1 September 1749, aged nine. That autumn the sickness went through her own family. Her brother John's wife Mary died on 30 September, her brother Joseph on 22 October, and her father on 29 November. Her son Obadiah died on 25 June 1750, five days after his nineteenth birthday.
Her death has not been found. No gravestone for her or for her husband is known.
