Sarah Madorah Berry was born on 19 July 1905 at Elmer, Salem County, New Jersey. Her parents were John H. Berry and Abigail Emma Davis. In 1910 the family lived in Pittsgrove Township, the farm country around Elmer: John was 46, Sarah 5, and her little sister Lila was a baby. They were still there in 1920.
She married Russell Fisher Timberman. Their first son, John Russell, called Jack, was born at Bridgeton in May 1924, when Sarah was eighteen. A daughter, S. Emma, came about 1927, and a second son, Laurence, called Larry, in 1931.
In 1930 the family lived in Elmer. Sarah was 24. By 1950 Russell owned a trucking company and Sarah kept house. Larry still lived at home, and Jack lived next door with his wife and their two small children, Sarah's first grandchildren.
Sarah died at Elmer on 12 April 1957, aged 51. She was buried at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, where her parents already lay and where Russell joined her in 1981. Her sons' obituaries, written sixty years later, both name her as Sarah Berry Timberman.
