Sarah Mason
Sarah, whose maiden name is given as Mason, was born in Virginia about 1745. She married James Huey, a Virginian who had moved to Chester County, South Carolina, as a boy. Their first child, a son, was born in Chester County, and two daughters followed before the Revolution began.
Her husband served in the militia through the war. Five more children were born after it. The eight were James, Elizabeth, Dorcas, Mason, John, Susan, Winifred and Jane. The second son carried the name Mason, and a grandson was named Charles Mason Huey.
On 1 January 1812 the family left Chester County for Louisiana. They reached Ouachita Parish in April 1812. Her son Mason died there that year, leaving a widow and five children. Sarah and James settled in the Indian Village country of western Ouachita Parish.
She died in 1821 and was buried in Antioch Cemetery, West Monroe. Her husband lived eighteen more years.
