Sarah Wilcox
Sarah Wilcox was born on 3 October 1648, the only child of John Wilcox of Hartford, Connecticut, and his first wife, Sarah Wadsworth. Her mother died soon after, and her father married three more times. His second wife, Catherine Stoughton, gave her four half-brothers and a half-sister. His third wife was a widow, Mary Farnsworth, who had two sons, Joseph and Thomas Long, by her first husband.
On 3 October 1666, her eighteenth birthday, Sarah married her step-brother Thomas Long. In 1671 her step-mother left her a feather bed and bolster, and a cloth waistcoat trimmed with great silver lace. When her father died at Middletown in 1676, the list of his children began with "Sarah Long, near 28 years old."
Sarah and Thomas had six children who lived: Mary, Joseph, William, Sarah, Jerusha and Hannah. The marriage broke down and they were divorced in 1681. She then married David Ensign of Hartford, who had himself been divorced in 1682 from his first wife, Mehitabel Gunn. They had a son, David.
She died on 3 February 1718. Her share of her father's land at Middletown passed to her children. Thirty-four years later her daughter Sarah, by then living on Schooley's Mountain in New Jersey, sold her seventh part, and the deed called her mother "Sarah Insign Alias Sarah Long."
