Sarah Wynne
Sarah Wynne was born on 7 September 1834. The census of 1860 gives her birthplace as Alabama. Her maiden name, Wynne, comes from her memorial and from her son Robert's.
She married Hugh Lawson White Raulston of Marion County, Tennessee, about 1852. Their first son, Robert S. Raulston, was born on 28 July 1853. On 30 July 1860, when the census taker came through the 11th District of Marion County, Sarah was 24. She, Hugh and four children were living in the house of Hugh's father, Robert S. Roulston, a widowed farmer of 54. The children were Robert S., 6, Bryce, 4, Laura E., 3, and Matilda, four months old. Hugh's brother James B. and sister Louisa lived there too.
Sarah bore eleven children between 1853 and 1875: Robert, Brice, Laura Elizabeth, Matilda Ellen, Nancy Scott, Frankie, William Jefferson, Joseph Lancaster, Horace Wade, Arthur John and Sarah Louise. During the Civil War her husband served as a colonel on the Union side, by his gravestone, and from 1883 to 1885 he sat in the Tennessee Senate.
Hugh died in 1902. Sarah lived another eleven years and died on 15 February 1913, aged 78. She is buried beside him in the Raulston Cemetery in Marion County.
