Susan Beck
Susan Beck was born in Baden, the grand duchy in southwest Germany on the Rhine, about 1828. She was in America by 1852.
Her children's birthplaces trace the family's first years in the country. Her son Henry was born in Pennsylvania on 11 March 1852. August followed about 1854 in New Jersey. By about 1856 they had settled at Sandusky, Ohio, a lake port with a large German population, where Susan, Belle and a baby boy were born by 1860. A daughter, Kathryn, was born at Sandusky on 21 December 1860.
In the census of 1860 Susan was thirty two and keeping house at Sandusky. Her husband is written there as Jacob Heiberger, thirty three, also from Baden. The death certificates of her children Henry, in 1914, and Kathryn, in 1929, both name their mother as Susan Beck; both name their father as Henry Heiberger, and Kathryn's gives him and Susan as born in Germany. When and where Susan died is not known.
