Thankful Ford
Thankful Ford was a daughter of Andrew Ford of Abington, Massachusetts, and his wife Abiah. Her father had been born at Weymouth about 1650. Her sisters were Sarah, who married a Josling, Lidiah, who married a Whitmarsh, and Abiah. Her brother Andrew was their father's executor.
She married Shubael Bearce at Plympton on 16 November 1709. Four years later her sister Abiah married Shubael's brother James. Thankful bore six children at Plympton over the next fourteen years. Her daughter Hannah, the eldest and the only daughter recorded, married Thomas Bryant and carried this line on. Her sons were Shubael, Andrew, Jacob, Hezekiah and Thomas.
Her maiden surname survives in the Plympton marriage entry, and her father's will makes her parentage plain. Andrew Ford died at Abington in August 1725. He had already given each of his four daughters fifteen pounds in land and money, and his will gave "Thankful Bearse" land as well. He also left land to her son, "Andrew Bearse (son of daughter Thankful)," who carried his name.
In 1734 the part of Plympton where they lived became the town of Halifax. On 23 December 1754 she and Shubael, with her sister Abiah and Abiah's husband, "all of Halifax," released their interest in eighty one acres at Abington that had come from her father. When she died is not known.
