Thomas Franklin
Thomas Franklin was born about 1735, by his memorial. He married a woman named Priscilla, whose maiden name is given as Rogers with a question mark. By the 1760s they were in the upcountry of South Carolina, in the country that became Chester County in 1785. Their son John was born about 1763 and their son Thomas Baker Franklin about 1765, and they had three daughters, Frances, Mary and Elizabeth.
He made his will in January 1789, "being very sick and weak in body tho in perfect mind and memory." Priscilla had the household furniture, the hogs and fowls, and an enslaved woman named Moggs. John received a tract called the Cotswills Tract, read by another researcher as the Caldwell Tract, and one shilling sterling. Thomas Baker Franklin received the tract his father was living on, which later deeds place on Cedar Creek. He and his mother were named executors. Each of the daughters had a shilling.
Thomas died in 1789, and his estate was inventoried on 14 August of that year. He was buried in the Franklin family cemetery in Chester County, where his son John and grandson Newton were later buried.
His son John's daughter, Priscilla, carried her grandmother's name and married James Huey Jr. about 1810. His son Thomas Baker Franklin served as sheriff of Chester County in 1799 and died in Clark County, Arkansas, in 1829.
