Thomas Roderick Wright
Thomas Roderick Wright was born on 22 January 1809 in Virginia. He married Rebecca Ann Langston, a Georgia woman born in Hancock County in 1812, and they began their family in Georgia. Their daughter Sarah Elizabeth was born in Morgan County, Georgia, on 2 October 1838.
Some time after 1838 the family moved west to the new cotton country of north Louisiana and settled near Vienna, a village on the old road between Monroe and Shreveport. The district was then part of Jackson Parish and later became Lincoln Parish. Several Hinton families lived nearby, and three Wright daughters married Hintons.
Thomas and Rebecca had ten children: Frances Marion, 1833, who married a Morgan; Emeline Grace, 1836, who married an Anding; Sarah Elizabeth, 1838, who married Charles Mason Huey and then Benjamin Franklin Hinton; Martha Lewis, 1840, who married a Nelson; Amanda Maria, 1842, who married a Morgan; Thomas John, 1844; James Moses, 1846, who died at four in 1850; Marzella Ann, 1848, and Belle Zora, 1851, who both married Hintons; and Simeon, 1852.
Thomas died at Vienna on 2 November 1854, aged 45, when his youngest child was two. He was buried in the Douglas Cemetery near Vienna. He and Rebecca share a tall marble shaft there. His side reads "Thomas R. Wright, died Nov. 2, 1854, aged about 45 years."
