Thomas Scottow

Children include Thomas

Thomas Scottow lived at Great Yarmouth, the herring port on the Norfolk coast. He and his wife Thomasine had their children baptized at the church of St Nicholas there. The register names the parents as "Tho" and "Tomi," "Tomasin," "Tomasen" or "Tomisen." Thomas was baptized on 30 April 1615, Joshua (entered under the spelling Scottaway) on 8 June 1617, Mary on 22 August 1619, Sara on 7 October 1621 and John on 2 May 1624. A daughter Rebecca, who came to New England with her mother, was born about 1626.

Another Thomas Scottow of Great Yarmouth married Ellen Browne there in 1621 and had children by her from 1625. He was a different man.

Thomas died before 1634, when Thomasine was in Boston as a widow. A modern study of the family gives his death as 1626. Where he was buried is not known. His widow joined the First Church of Boston in September 1634 and later married a Sanford. His son Thomas stayed in Boston, and his son Joshua became a Boston merchant, a founder of the South Church and a judge in Maine.
