Thomas Shedd
Thomas Shedd was a husbandman of Great Easton, in the north-west of Essex. A husbandman was a working farmer who held land, below a yeoman in standing.
On 23 November 1572 he married Ursula Richardson in the parish church of St Mary at Debden, a few miles north. The clerk wrote her name "Useley". The Great Easton register then has baptisms of Shed children: Joan on 30 September 1573, and Thomas on 13 March 1574/5. The transcriptions of those entries give the father's surname but not his forename.
Ursula was buried at Great Easton on 5 May 1602, entered as "Ursulye Shed". On 16 April 1604 a Thomas Shed married Elyzabeth Rowly there. That was probably Thomas the widower marrying again, and it fits the second wife that J. Gardner Bartlett gives him in the Shedd genealogy of 1921.
He made his will on 8 June 1612. Bartlett says it names sons Thomas, William, Daniel and John and a daughter Mary. His grandson Daniel, the eldest son of his son Thomas, was probably named for the uncle Daniel in that will.
Bartlett makes his son Thomas the Thomas Shed who settled at Finchingfield, where he was buried in 1637 as Old Thomas Shed. The will names a son Thomas without saying more, and the Great Easton baptism of 1574/5 is the join.
