Thomas Spurlock

Tom Spurlock was born on 19 April 1876 in Tennessee, the second son of William Givens Spurlock and his wife Nancy. In June 1880 he was four, living with his parents in District 12 of Warren County, Tennessee, with his brother Bird, 6, and his sister Mary F., 1. His sister Mary Frances, called Florence, lived until 1950, and his brother William Bird, called Billy, until 1963.

The family moved to Falls County, Texas. There Tom married Annie Mae Gibson, a Falls County girl a year older than he was, in the 1890s. Their first child, Bird, was born in 1896 and died the next year; he was probably named for Tom's brother. Mattie and Hattie were both born in 1898. Mattie died the next year, and Hattie lived to 1988. Then came Elizabeth in 1904, Hallie Mae on 17 September 1907, Arthur T. in 1909 and Ruth in 1914.

In 1917 or 1918 Tom registered for the World War I draft in Falls County, giving his birth date as 19 April 1876. His father died at Durango, in the same county, in 1915.

Tom Spurlock died at Lott, Falls County, on 6 January 1951, aged 74. His death certificate gave his father as Will Spurlock and his birthplace as Tennessee. He was buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott, where Annie Mae was laid beside him fifteen years later.
