They started their family in Brooklyn, where the 1905 state census found the young couple, and where their son Victor George was born in 1909.
In 1920 the census found Victor and Hester still in Brooklyn with seven children: Alice, Edith, Emma, Charles, William, Everett and Victor Jr. During the 1920s they moved out to Lynbrook, in Nassau County on Long Island.
In 1930 the census found Victor, 49, and Hester, 45, in Lynbrook with six children: Evelyn V., Charles E., Everett L., Edith H., Victor Jr., who was about 20, and the baby of the family, Grace F., who was 2. Grace had been born in Lynbrook on 4 August 1928.
In 1940 Victor and Hester were still in the town of Hempstead, with Edith, Evelyn and Charles at home. By 1947 they lived on McKinley Avenue in Lynbrook. On Sunday 15 June 1947 Victor gave Grace away at the Lynbrook Baptist Church, where she married Robert H. Himes, a Lynbrook man home from the Army Air Forces. His son Charles was an usher, his daughter Edith Fischer was matron of honor, and another married daughter, Mrs. Maurice Pearsall of Lakeview, was a bridesmaid.
On 1 April 1950 Victor and Hester were living in East Rockaway, the next village south of Lynbrook, with their daughter Edith Fischer.
