Wendelina Hubertina Lankes
Wendelina Hubertina Lankes was born on 13 January 1845 at Belfeld, a farming village on the Maas River just north of Venlo, in the Dutch province of Limburg. She was a daughter of Mathijs Lankes, a farmer, and Gertrudis van Horen. Her mother was nearly 44 when she was born.
Her father died at Belfeld on 1 March 1851, aged 50, when she was six. Her mother later married again, to Albertus Houzer, a day laborer of Belfeld.
On 9 April 1874, at 29, Wendelina married Jacobus van Densen of Blerick at Belfeld. Both were described as working on the land. Their first child, Anna Gertrudis, was born at Belfeld that December. Her mother died at Belfeld on 19 October 1878, aged 77.
By 1877 the young family was living at Blerick in the house of her husband's parents, Gerard van Densen and Gertrudis Janssen. The Blerick population register writes her as Angelina Hubertina Lankes, born 3 January 1845 at Belfeld, and the births of her children there in 1877 and 1883 use the same name. Her son Laurens Matheus was born in that house on 22 December 1878. In Wisconsin he became Michael Lawrence Van Densen.
A stone at Saint Paul Catholic Cemetery in Wrightstown, Brown County, Wisconsin, marks an Angeline Vandensen, "Wife of Jacob Vandensen", born on 13 January 1844 and died on 15 January 1916. Her son Michael was naturalized in Brown County in 1914. The day and month on the stone are her own, so this is very probably her grave.
