William Allgar
William Allgar lived at Shalford in Essex. The parish register there begins in 1558, and it records the baptisms of his children. Mary was baptised on 9 September 1560 and Bridget on 11 March 1562. A son John was baptised on 6 April 1565 and buried on 1 August, four months later. The next son, baptised on 5 October 1567, was given the same name.
His daughters married at Shalford. Mary married Ralfe Bette on 27 September 1582. Bridget married Robert White of Messing on 24 June 1585, in the church where she had been baptised. In the same years an Anne Allgar married Henry Bette, son of John Bette the elder, on 16 October 1575.
There were two men named William Allgar in the parish. "William Allgar the elder" was buried at Shalford on 2 August 1575. Yet an Elizabeth, daughter of William Allgar, was baptised there on 5 May 1583, eight years later. The younger William was probably the elder's son. Bridget's father was most likely the elder, which makes the 1575 burial his, but the register does not say which William fathered which child.
Bridget and Robert White had their children baptised at Shalford: Sara in 1585, Nathaniel in 1587, Mary on 24 August 1590, Elizabeth in 1591, Bridget in 1594 and Anne in 1600. Mary married Joseph Loomis there on 30 June 1614 and went with him to Windsor in Connecticut.
