William Churchill
Born at Plymouth in 1656, the fifth child of John Churchill the immigrant, and six years old when his father, dying, willed him the purchase land at Punkatussett. He took it up as a man. The tract was set off as the town of Plympton in 1707, and the Plympton records afterwards identified him and half his descendants by one phrase, one of the first settlers in Plympton.
He married Lydia Bryant at Plymouth on 17 January 1683, a daughter of the Plymouth Colony immigrant Stephen Bryant. Both of them were members of the church at Plymouth. Their eight children fill the Plympton books, and two of the sons married two sisters out of a second and unrelated Bryant household.
He died on 5 October 1722. The town book says he was 66, which fits his birth in 1656; his gravestone says 63. It also records, in the place where his father's name should be, only that the man lived at Hobb's Hole in Plymouth. That is where John Churchill lived and died.
