He was a perfumer, and his residence was in St Martin in the Fields in London. He married Frances Latham, daughter of Lewis Latham, and they had five children: Barbara, William, Frances, Elizabeth and Thomas. Elizabeth died before her father. He never came to America.

He made a spoken will on 13 September 1636, as a dying man, and was buried at St Martin-in-the-Fields a week later, on 20 September. The will was proved on 5 October. His wife was executrix and Mr Thomas Gibbon and Mr Samuel Smith were overseers. He left £70 to each of the four children by name, to be paid at full age or marriage, with the survivors to take the share of any child who died. His widow was to have everything else, "be it in goods, chattels, leases, ready money, plate or other my substance whatsoever," and the bringing up of the children while she stayed a widow, and if she married again she was to give good security to the overseers for the payment of the children's legacies. He left the two overseers ten shillings apiece to buy themselves rings.

His widow did marry again, to Jeremiah Clarke, and took the four children to Rhode Island. One of them, Thomas, became the first Baptist minister in Pennsylvania. Another, Frances, married Randall Holden of Warwick.
