Daughter of William Dungan, a perfumer of St Martin in the Fields in London, and of Frances Latham. Her father made his will on 13 September 1636 and it was proved three weeks later, leaving £70 apiece to his four children, Barbara, William, Frances and Thomas, payable at full age or marriage. She cannot have been more than a small girl. Her mother married Jeremiah Clarke and brought the four Dungan children across to New England with her.

She married Randall Holden of Warwick, the Gortonist who had been gaoled at Salem under sentence of death for speaking, and who went to England and came back with the settlement's rights confirmed. Eleven of their children are entered with dates: Frances in September 1649, Elizabeth in August 1652, Mary in August 1654, John in January 1656, Sarah in February 1658/9, Randall in April 1660, Margaret in January 1663, Charles in March 1666, Barbara in July 1668, Susanna in December 1670 and Anthony in October 1673. That is twenty four years of childbearing in a town that had been besieged by Massachusetts soldiers the year before she arrived in it. She outlived her husband by five years and died in 1697.
