William Francis Trowbridge
William Francis Trowbridge was born on 6 July 1856 at Mount Freedom, a village in Randolph Township, Morris County, New Jersey. His burial memorial names his parents as David Austin Trowbridge and Catharine Caroline Coe, and lists ten brothers and sisters.
About 1883 he married Anna Mae Southard, born at Lake Hopatcong in 1864, the daughter of Timothy Southard, a Morris County justice of the peace. In June 1900 they had been married seventeen years and lived in Randolph Township. The household then held William, 44, Anna, 35, Harry, 11, Elwood, 10, Myrtle, 2, and the baby Robert, born in August 1899.
Their children, as the family recorded them, were Willie, born 1884; Ellwood, 1889; Harry and Mahlon, 1891; Myrtle, 1897; Robert, 1899; Eddie, 1903; Winifred Minnie, 1904; and Walter, 1908. Several of them went to the Millbrook schoolhouse in Randolph Township, where a class photograph of about 1915 shows Eddie, Robert, Walter and Winnie together.
A photograph shows William in old age, white-bearded, in a vest and shirtsleeves, standing between his daughter Myrtle and his daughter-in-law Rosa Snook.
William died at Dover on 17 December 1935, aged 79, and was buried on 19 December in the family plot at Mount Freedom Presbyterian Cemetery, section E, row 7. Anna was laid beside him in 1959. The graves are unmarked, along the eastern stone wall of the cemetery.
