William Henry Brett
William Henry Brett was a miller at Dover in Kent. On 17 August 1813 he married Ann Vennall at the church of St Mary and St Eanswythe in Folkestone. He was then of Folkestone.
The couple had their children baptized at the Wesleyan Methodist chapel of Dover and Buckland. Henry William was baptized on 24 March 1816, with his parents' names entered in the reverse order as Henry William and Ann Brett. Elizabeth Vennall followed on 4 February 1821, given her mother's maiden name as her middle name, and Edward on 12 January 1823. The family lived in the parish of St Mary, Dover.
He was still a miller in 1840. That July his son William Henry Brett, a bankers' clerk, married Elizabeth Ann Jarrett, the daughter of a Wesleyan minister, at Dover. In 1842 a "Will'm Henry Brett" witnessed his daughter Elizabeth's wedding to John Pilcher at St James, Dover. The index of her second marriage, in 1846, misreads his surname as Butt.
His own baptism is probably that of William Henry, son of Stephen and Elizabeth Brett, born on 22 November 1788 and christened at Dover St Mary on 14 December. A Stephen Brett had married Elizabeth Kember at Dover St Mary in 1781. A William Henry Brett was buried at Dover on 10 January 1844. Both identifications are probable, not proven.
