Wilma Smith
Wilma Smith was born on 8 November 1884 in Pennsylvania, the third child of William R. Smith and Alma Huntley. A family genealogy printed in 1914 spells her Willma, and so does her marriage record. The 1900 census puts her at sixteen in her father's house at Aspinwall, in the same small enumeration district where the orphaned Alan Clyde McCowan was living with his sister.
They married on 1 June 1904. Five children followed in eight years. William Roberts Smith McCowan, named for her father, was born on 18 May 1905. James Llewellen followed on 14 September 1907, Inabel on 25 August 1909, Charlotte Eurilda on 22 August 1911 and Edward Ray on 26 August 1913. The family was at Hoboken on the Allegheny in 1910, and about 1913 at Beaver, Pennsylvania.
That is the last record of her. By 1920 a second wife, Mary F. New, sits in her place, so Wilma died or the marriage ended between about 1914 and 1920. Her end is not known. James named his first daughter for her.
