Aaron Huntley
Aaron Huntley was born at Lyme, Connecticut, on 1 December 1680. He was the third child of Aaron Huntley and Mary Champion, and a grandson of John Huntley, who had come to Lyme from Boston and Roxbury about 1661.
He lived on land his father left him. On 27 July 1707 he married Deborah DeWolf, the seventeen-year-old daughter of Stephen DeWolf of Lyme. They had eleven children over twenty-three years.
In October 1720 he sat for Lyme in the General Assembly of Connecticut. "He acted as Deputy to the General Assembly for the Town of Lyme, with Thomas Lee Oct. 13, 1720." Each town sent two deputies to the Assembly's lower house, which made the colony's laws with the governor and council.
His children were Hannah in 1708, Aaron in 1710, Solomon in 1712, Deborah in 1714, Ruth in 1717, Stephen in 1719, Phebe in 1722, Esther in 1724, Nathan in 1726, Jemima in 1728 and Timothy in 1731. Hannah married Ebenezer Mack at Lyme in 1728. Through her he was the great-great-grandfather of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement.
He made his will in 1743. "In his will, dated 1743, he names his wife, Deborah, his sons, Aaron, Nathan and Timothy, and his daughters, Deborah, Ruth, Phoebe, Esther and Jemima." It is the record that names Nathan as his son.
He died at Lyme on 26 September 1748, aged sixty-seven. His youngest son Timothy, aged sixteen, died the same day. Deborah survived them both.
Thirteen years later, in 1761, his sons Aaron and Nathan and several of his daughters and their husbands sold their land at Lyme and moved together to Marlow, New Hampshire.
