Thomas Seamer was baptised at Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire on 15 July 1632: "Thomas the sonne of Richard & Mercy Seamer was Bapt. July 15." His parents brought him to New England about 1638 or 1639, when he was about six. He grew up at Hartford in Connecticut and moved with them to Norwalk about 1651. His father died in 1655. Thomas was the only one of the children then of age, and when his mother remarried and took the younger children to Farmington, he succeeded to his father's lands at Norwalk.
The Norwalk town clerk also wrote his name Seymour. In January 1653 he TOOKE TO WIFFE HANNAIH MARVIN, THE DAUGHTER OF MATH. MARVIN of the same town.
He held the home lot next to the meeting house yard, taken by exchange from his father. He is on the town's estate list of 1655 at a hundred pounds, on the list of 1673, and on the commonage list of 1687 at a hundred and eighty four pounds fifteen shillings. In February 1699 the town warned him to lay open the way to Hungry Spring.
Nine children are entered under his name, and the eldest of them married Francis Bushnell.
He was made a freeman in 1668, was one of the patentees of Norwalk in 1686, and sat as the town's deputy in the General Court in 1690. After Hannah's death he married a second wife, Elizabeth. He made his will on 22 September 1712, describing himself as "very Sick and Weak," and was dead before 15 October, when John Raymond and Samuel Smith appraised his estate at 351 pounds 5 shillings. It was proved on 7 November 1712.
