Agnes Hardie

Agnes Hardie was born on 18 June 1843. Her parents were James Hardie and Agnes Dunlop, Scots who had married in 1834. Their older children were born in Scotland, and the family's records point to Glasgow. By 1845 they were in Detroit, where her brother William was born that September. Her own birthplace is uncertain. Her burial record in 1912 gives England, but it also gives her age as sixty four when she was sixty nine.

She married Henry Augustus Batchelor, a Michigan-born lumberman, and they made their first home at Port Huron. Her daughter Agnes was born in Port Huron Township on 5 October 1867. Jacob Frederick followed about 1871 and Ella Murdock in 1872. Later the family moved to Saginaw, where Henry Augustus Jr. was born in 1879 and Margaret in 1883. Another daughter, Alice, was also born in Michigan. Two of the children carried names from her own family: Margaret for her eldest sister, and Agnes for herself and her mother.

On 18 December 1890 her daughter Agnes married James Thompson Wylie at Saginaw. The bride's mother is named on the record as Agnes Hardie.

Henry died on 21 August 1912. Agnes Hardie Batchelor died at Saginaw two months later, on 21 October 1912, a widow. She was buried beside him at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
