Alice Gaylard
Alice Gaylard was baptised at Pitminster, in Somerset, on 10 May 1594, written "Alce," the daughter of Hugh Gaylard. Her father held land in the tithing of South Trendle, in the same hamlet as the Trotts. She had a brother George, to whom their father surrendered a close called Smalecrest in 1608.
Her father was buried at Pitminster in October 1614. On 27 April 1615 she married Richard Trott in Pitminster church. Her husband held his late father's house and land at South Trendle, which his mother Honor kept for her widowhood. Alice's first child, Honor, was baptised on 19 March 1615/16. Joanna, Sarah, Richard and Robert followed, and Susanna was baptised on 8 October 1629.
The family went to New England and settled at Wethersfield in Connecticut, where the name became Treat. Her son Robert Treat became governor of the colony. Her daughter Susanna married Robert Webster, a son of Gov. John Webster.
In 1658 "Alice wife of Richard Treat, sen." signed the Wethersfield petition against the Rev. John Russell, the minister there. Her daughter Joanna Hollister signed it with her. Alice outlived her husband, who died in the winter of 1669 to 1670. When she died is not known.
