Susannah Treat was baptised at Pitminster in Somerset, England, on 8 October 1629, a daughter of Richard Treat and Alice Gaylard. Her father had been baptised in the same church in 1584 as Richard, son of Robert Trott, and her mother there in 1594 as Alice, daughter of Hugh Gaylard. Her parents married at Pitminster on 27 April 1615. The family lived at South Trendle, a hamlet of the parish, on land the Trotts had held of the manor of Taunton since at least 1571. They came to Wethersfield in Connecticut, where the name became Treat, and her brother Robert Treat was later governor of the colony.

She married Robert Webster, a son of Gov. John Webster, in 1652 or 1653. They lived first at Middletown, where her husband was recorder and lieutenant of the trainband, and where their son John was born on 10 November 1653 and their daughter Sarah in 1655. By 1662 they were at Hartford, and in 1669 her husband was one of the founders of the Second Church there.

Her husband died at Hartford at the end of May 1676, in the middle of King Philip's War, and left an estate of 670 pounds. She lived more than twenty years longer. Her eldest son John died in December 1694, at forty one. On 23 January 1698 she made her will and named his children as her heirs in his place: "the now surviving children of my oldest son John Webster, deceased, viz.: John, Ebenezer, Jacob, Daniell, Sarah, Ann, Abigail."
