Almon Lester Walton
Almon Lester Walton was born on 7 September 1868 at Mercer, Somerset County, the third son of Simon W. Walton and the first by Simon's second wife, Eliza Sawtell. His father, who lived to ninety-three, had two sons by a first marriage and six children in all; the family moved from the Mercer and Norridgewock country, where Simon's parents are buried, to Fayette and Livermore.
On 26 April 1896, as Almon Walton of Livermore, he married Susie C. Mitchell of East Livermore, a daughter of Charles H. Mitchell, the Civil War soldier of Moose Hill, and Lucy J. Lakin. His elder half-brother Albert Ernest Walton had married Susie's elder sister Jane two years earlier, so two Walton brothers had two Mitchell sisters. Their children were Harold Almon, Doris Pearl, born at East Livermore on 20 April 1899, and Percy Edmond, born at Brunswick on 1 February 1902. In June 1900 the census found the family at East Livermore, the Livermore Falls side of the river, and in 1920 at Livermore. Harold married Ada Alberta Sobey at Waterville in June 1918 and Doris married Charles Raymond Brooks there in August 1921.
He died at South Gardiner, Kennebec County, on 7 November 1921, aged fifty-three years, two months and one day, and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Oakland, where his parents, his widow and his son would follow him under the one Walton monument.
