Amos Boynton
Amos Boynton was born in 1744, a son of Nathaniel Boynton the Westford housewright. He married Mary Parker in January 1770, and the two of them left Massachusetts for Vermont.
They settled at Plymouth, in Windsor County, in the hills on the east side of the Green Mountains. His brother Nathan went to the same country and lived at Reading and at Cavendish, the towns immediately north and west of Plymouth. The three towns sit within a few miles of each other and the two families were within a morning's walk.
Five of their children are named in the family record. Isaiah was born on 20 October 1770 and married Rebecca Page of Plymouth in 1796. Mary was born on 19 July 1773 and married a Williams. Joseph went to New York. Abigail married a Pollard and stayed at Plymouth. Amos married Mirey Perry, and died at Ludlow, Vermont, about 1860, at ninety or ninety six.
Of the five, only one left the region entirely. Mary and her husband spent the next fifty years moving west by stages, through New York, Ohio and Indiana, and ended in Sangamon County, Illinois. The record of the family in Vermont notes it in four words: removed to Illinois.
