Nathaniel Boynton

Nathaniel Boynton was born at Rowley on 11 December 1694, the son of Deacon Joseph Boynton and Bridget Harris. He was a housewright and a farmer, and he moved inland from the Essex County coast.

In 1720 he married Hannah, daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Perham. She died on 16 September 1733. His intention to marry Elizabeth Shedd of Billerica was entered on 13 September 1735.

He lived a few years at Littleton, then moved to the west precinct of Chelmsford, which was set off as the town of Westford. He served there as town clerk for many years, and as a selectman. His house and his shop stood on the road toward Littleton. When the town laid out a way on 31 October 1726 the surveyors described it running by the house of Nathaniel Boynton, to a rock and heap of stones near said Boynton's shop, thence between said Boynton's shop and dwelling house, and on to the land of Benoni Perham deceased. Thirty years later, in February 1757, the town laid out another way in exchange for the old one through his land.

He was dismissed from the church at Westford to the church at Pepperell, and he died there. The date is not recorded. He signed the town's accounts as a selectman in January 1759, and his widow married Thomas Heald of Westford on 15 August 1759, so he died between those two dates.
