Anna Maria Vött
Anna Maria Vött was born at Kusterdingen, a village a few miles east of Tübingen in the kingdom of Württemberg, on 20 December 1813. Her parents were Johann Georg Vött and his wife Anna Maria, very probably the Anna Maria Decker he had married in 1803. Her father was buried on 4 November 1817, aged forty-two, when she was three.
She was one of at least six children. Magdalena, born about 1805, was buried in 1814, and Maria Barbara, born in 1807, in January 1808. Johann Jakob was born about 1809. A second Maria Barbara was born on 30 August 1816, and a brother Johann Georg also grew up in the village.
On 1 May 1837 she married Jakob Grauer at Kusterdingen. The marriage entry names the parents on both sides: his were Johann Georg Grauer and Anna Maria, and hers were Johann Georg Vött and Anna Maria. Her husband's mother had been born Anna Maria Vött too.
Her first child, Jakob, was baptised at Kusterdingen on 18 January 1838, eight months after the wedding. A second Jakob followed on 1 July 1840, so the first probably died young. Wilhelm was baptised on 3 July 1842, Anna Maria on 3 October 1844, Conrad on 21 January 1847 and Agnes on 25 March 1849. The index also gives the couple a Friederike, an Eva Barbara and a Johannes.
Three of her children ended their lives in America. Jacob, born in 1840, farmed at Marysville in Kansas and died there in 1901. Conrad farmed at Palmer in Christian County, Illinois, and died in 1917. Anna Maria, Anna Marie in America, married Nicholas Wilhelm Ruppert and died at Nokomis, Illinois, in 1924.
Her brothers and sister married in the village in the same years. Johann Jakob married in February 1837 and was buried on 21 July 1860. Johann Georg married Louise Dorothea Wandel on 12 June 1838 and was buried on 4 October 1877. Maria Barbara married on 7 May 1840.
She was buried at Kusterdingen on 9 June 1875. The entry names her as the daughter of Johann Georg Vött and Anna Maria and the wife of Jakob Grauer, and gives her birth year as 1814.
