Arthur Rexes Cryer
Arthur Rexes Cryer was born in Louisiana on 19 November 1857. A note left with his grave by a descendant names his parents as Wade Richard Cryer and Mary Jane Scott, and his grandparents as Thomas Cryer and Elsie Franklin, who were in Tyler County, Texas, by 1850. His brothers Wade, Alvin, Alonzo and John and his sisters Mrs. Donahoe and Mrs. Bruce were all living when he died.
He married Nancy Emaline Gilley, a Mississippi-born girl whose family had come through Louisiana to Polk County, Texas. Their son Luther Thomas was born at Floresville in Wilson County in 1887. In 1900 Arthur was farming in Milam County with his wife and eight children, and in 1910 he was in Marshall County, Oklahoma.
He came back to Texas. He died at his home near Holland on 27 October 1938, aged 80. The Austin American-Statesman reported: "Funeral services were held here Friday for Arthur Cryer, 80, who died at his home near here Thursday. Burial was in the Frendship cemetery. The Rev. Wade McGinnis officiated." It named his widow and seven sons, "W. R., O. L., W. W., L. T., Felix and Arthur, Jr., all of Holland and Earl of Wink," and three daughters, Mrs. Looney and Mrs. Young of Willis, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Willingham of Tahoka. His stone at Friendship Cemetery reads "Father. A. R."
