Barbara Marie Trowbridge
Barbara Marie Trowbridge was born on 5 May 1940 at Dover, in Morris County, New Jersey. Dover was an iron and railroad town in the hills of north Jersey. Her father, Robert Trowbridge, came from an old Randolph Township family. Her mother, Clara Delinda Flornes, was the daughter of a Norwegian, Sigurd Mander Flornes.
Barbara was the third of four children, after Doris and Robert and before Walter. In May 1950 she was 10 and living in Randolph Township with her parents, her brothers and sister, and her father's mother, Anna May, who was 86. Her father drove a truck for an ice delivery business. In May 1956, at 16, she applied for a Social Security number and named her parents as Robert Trowbridge and Clara D. Flornes.
She married Harold Lewis Cresta, a Dover man twenty years older than she was. He had served as a sergeant in the Army in the Second World War. Their daughter, Joy Marie Cresta, was born on 18 March 1964. When Joy married at Danville, Virginia, in July 1988, her marriage certificate named her parents as Harold Lewis Cresta and Barbara Marie Trowbridge.
A family account of her life says she later married Joseph Michael Foderaro. He was born in 1935 at Media, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and died on 30 January 2003 at Danville, Pennsylvania. He is buried in Ewing Cemetery.
Barbara died on 1 December 2007 at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, aged 67. She was brought home to Morris County and buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Randolph, among her own family. Her parents lie in the same cemetery, and so do her brother Robert and Harold Cresta. Her flat granite stone gives her maiden name and three words: "Barbara M. Trowbridge, 1940, 2007, Loved By All."
