Bradford Allen Cryer
Bradford Allen Cryer, known as Jerry, was born on 12 January 1910. His grave record gives Marshall County, Oklahoma, where his grandfather Arthur Cryer's family was living in 1910; the 1950 census gives Texas. His parents were Luther Thomas Cryer and Stella Lee Reaves. His brothers and sisters were Irene Elizabeth, later Howard, Edna Lillian, later Becker, Wade Luther, Nelta Mae, later Blankenship, and Bennie Truman.
He married Ruth Lyles, a Louisiana girl from the Wesley Chapel community near Ruston. Their children were Evelyn, Barbara Ann, Virginia Lou, born at Davilla in Milam County in 1935, Thomas Wesley, Mary Jane, Gary Allen, Dennis and Steven.
By 1950 the family had moved west to San Angelo. The census taker found them on 5 April 1950 at house 413 in San Angelo: Bradford, 40, Ruth, 39, and seven children from Virginia, 14, down to Stephen, born the previous October. He worked 48 hours that week selling feed at a retail feed store, and had earned about $3,000 the year before. His daughter Barbara Ann, 17, had just married Alton C. Gilbert, and the young couple lived next door at number 409. His father, L. T. Cryer, lived in San Angelo too.
Jerry Cryer died at Temple on 5 December 1973, aged 63. He was buried at Friendship Cemetery near Davilla, in the Milam County ground where his parents and grandparents lie. Ruth outlived him by more than twenty years.
