Charles Franklin Simpson was born near Natoma, Ellis County, Kansas, on 24 September 1915. He was the fourth child of Perry Commodore Simpson and Eva Ethny Reedy. He went by Frank all his life, and his gravestone calls him C. Frank Simpson.

In 1920 he was four, living with his parents and his brothers Raymond, William and Lester and sister Lillie on the family farm in Saline Township, Ellis County. His mother died at Hays in June 1922, when he was six. In 1930 he was fourteen and still in Saline Township with his father and his brothers Clarence and Lester.

He married Louella Thurston, who was born in 1919, and they raised their children in the farm country along the Saline River where Ellis and Rooks Counties meet. Their first child, Nora Lee, was born at Hays on 25 July 1940. A son, Delmar, followed about 1942, then Janice about 1945 and Elva about 1948.

When the census taker reached the family on 26 April 1950, they were living in Paradise Township, Rooks County, near the town of Codell. Frank was 34 and Louella 30. He was working sixty hours a week feeding cattle on a ranch, for wages. A year earlier the family had been living in Ellis County, just to the south.

Nora grew up in Codell and finished school there in 1958. Delmar and Elva both died before their sister Nora, and Janice married a Reading.

Frank died on 12 November 1992. He is buried at Norman Cemetery in Ellis County, Kansas, under a double stone that reads "Simpson, Louella 1919 - 1996, C. Frank 1915 - 1992". Louella was laid beside him four years later.
