Derrick Casselberry

d. 1765 · New Providence PA
Died 1765
Father: Henry Casselberry
Mother: Catharine Casselberry

Derrick Casselberry of Providence, son of Henry Casselberry and Catharine, and father of Susanna who married Elisha Davis. He witnessed Thomas David's will in July 1756, the one that set aside half an acre for a burying place free for all Christians. He made his own will on 16 May 1765 and it was proved four weeks later, so he did not linger. He signed with a mark.

His parents were Lower Rhine Mennonites. His father was almost certainly the Hendrick Kasselberg, "from Backersdorf, in the county of Brugge," who was at Germantown by 1691. A Catharine Kasselberg, almost certainly his mother, is on the list of members of the Germantown Mennonite congregation in 1708. Both his parents' wills call him Dirick, and Dirck was a common name among those families. The Casselberrys kept to the church. In 1801 a later Derrick Casselberry was a trustee of the burying ground of the "Dutch Anabaptist Society" at Worcester, the Methacton meeting.

His own marriage is not in the printed lists of Philadelphia church marriages and marriage licences, and his wife Mary's surname is unknown.
