Dicie Avilla Standridge was born on 29 December 1898 at Mount Ida, Montgomery County, Arkansas, the seventh of the nine children of James William Ware Standridge and John Ann Davis. The Standridges had been in the Ouachita Mountains for generations and the burying ground at Mount Ida carries their name. Her brothers and sisters were Nellie Ann Matilda, Cecil Alexander Gibson, John David Leander, Levi, who died as a baby in 1892, Isaac Lester, Avis Priscilla, Vera Ethel and Carl Boston. Her mother died in 1917 when Dicie was eighteen; her father married again, Emaline Walker, and a half-sister Lita was born in 1924.
She married Karel Sekavec, called Charles, a Kansas-born Bohemian ten years older who had come to Arkansas by the First World War. Their son Guy was born in July 1926, and daughters Deane and Evelyn. In 1930 the family was at South Fork. Charles died in 1963. Dicie lived to 86, dying on 7 February 1985, and is buried with him in Stanley-Standridge Cemetery.
