Dorcas Woodward

Dorcas Woodward was a daughter of Israel Woodward of Taunton, Massachusetts, and his wife Elizabeth. She was born about 1716.

She married Josiah Harvey at Taunton on 12 January 1737. The clerk wrote them as "Josiah and Dorcas Woodward, both of T." By the 1740s they lived at Norton. Their daughter Tabitha was born there on 5 October 1742. They also had a son, Josiah.

Two of her family married Harveys too. Her sister Abigail married David Harvey, and her brother Benajah married an Abigail Harvey.

Her father died in December 1766 without a will. In 1767 the probate court ordered his estate divided among his children. The division of 1770 went to "Benajah Woodward, Dorcas Harvey, wife of Josiah Harvey, and Abigail Harvey".

She outlived her husband by many years. In November 1803 her son Josiah, as "son & friend of Dorcas Harvey of Norton widow", brought her before the probate court. She was found "lunatic, non compos mentis & incapable of taking care of herself". Non compos mentis means not of sound mind. Her son was made her guardian. She was about eighty-seven. The date of her death is not known.
