Dorothea A. Bound

Dorothea A. Bound was born about 1830 in Maryland and is Dolly in every census that gets close to her. She married Elias Barker in Sangamon County, Illinois on 21 July 1848 and bore at least eight children, six or seven daughters and one son, Briant.

Her name is written differently in nearly every record. The county marriage register writes her Doretha Ann Ballaner. Power's county history writes her Dorothy Bound. Her daughters' death certificates write Bounds. The census writes Dolly. Bounds is a Maryland surname, which agrees with the Maryland birthplace in the 1870 census, and that agreement is the strongest evidence there is that the register's Ballaner and the history's Bound are the same woman.

She was widowed in 1873 at about forty-three. Power, writing in 1876, finds her with the children near Clarksville, Illinois. The compiled family tree gives her parents as Thomas Bounds Jr. and Sarah A. Peters and her death as 1909, none of which has been confirmed from a record.
