Edna Almeria Crane
Edna Almeria Crane was born on 8 August 1887 in Barnet, Caledonia County, Vermont. She was the sixth of ten children of Denzil Mansfield Crane and Nancie Snow, who farmed at McIndoe Falls, the village at the south end of Barnet on the Connecticut River. Her father was also a teacher. Two of her brothers died as babies.
On 24 September 1913 she married Charles Harvey Orr, a native of nearby Groton. His older brother William James Orr had married her older sister Grace Mary Crane in 1902. Edna's son Dorman Charles Orr was born in Barnet on 7 May 1915, and her daughter Almeria Gertrude on 24 January 1920. Gertrude carried her mother's middle name.
The family moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts, where Charles worked as an inspector at the tap and die works. In April 1950 Edna, 62, and Charles lived upstairs in their Greenfield house, with Dorman's family below them. Her daughter married Lewis Nathan Chase of Gill. Charles died in 1963 while visiting the Chases.
Edna died in Greenfield on 1 December 1972, aged 85. She is buried with her husband in Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, Section 37, Lot 15, under a stone that reads "Edna A. Crane, his wife, 1887 1972".
