Nancy Agnes Snow
Nancy Agnes Snow, who wrote her name Nancie, was born on 25 October 1854 on the family farm at Brandon, Rutland County, Vermont. Her father, Jesse G. Snow, was a Brandon farmer born in 1830. Her mother, Julia Ann Kelly, born in Canada in 1838, was sixteen. Nancy was named for her mother's mother, Nancy Agnes Hendry, who had died at Brandon three years before.
Her sisters Marion Wallace and Inez Etta were also born on the Brandon farm. Their father died on 11 October 1866, when Nancie was eleven. In 1871 their mother brought the three girls to Barnet and married Alexander Roy, a widower with four sons. Marion and Inez later married two of those sons, Ezra J. Roy and Moses Roy.
On 1 January 1877 Nancie married Denzil Mansfield Crane at Danville. They farmed at McIndoe Falls in Barnet and had ten children between 1877 and 1898. Two died as babies, Freddie Henry in 1879 and Marshall Snow in 1898. Her daughter Edna Almeria was born on 8 August 1887.
In September 1921 her mother's house in Barnet village burned, and Julia came to live with Nancie at McIndoes. Her mother's obituary said Nancie "has tenderly cared for her mother during her declining years." Julia died at the Crane home on 24 January 1923.
Denzil died in April 1933. Nancie died at Barnet on 28 December 1934, aged 80, and is buried with him in McIndoe Falls Cemetery.
